Summary

The 10X Genomics Chromium Controller leverages Next GEM technology, enabling integrative analysis of thousands of individual cells. In the controller, barcoded gel beads are brought together with cells or cell nuclei of a cell suspension and enzymes. Using separating oil, individual emulsion droplets are generated on an 8-channel chip (GEM = "gel bead-in-emulsion") , which act as individual reaction vesicles. After amplification, all fragments from a same cell will contain a common 10X barcode. The libraries of thousands of cells can be pooled and used on short-read sequencers such as the Next Generation Sequencing Unit.
